KublaCon's Game Shuffler™

With over 800 scheduled events - not including organized play - our Game Shuffler and Event Database gives interested players a fair chance to play in several of their favorite games over the weekend.
RPG's (Roleplaying games), some LARPS, Scheduled Tabletop Events (TBL) and certain special events will require our lottery system called the GameShuffler. All other events such as collectable card games, miniatures, etc., use signup sheets.

Which Games get Shuffled?


Shuffled events are marked differently whether you're viewing the event online using our event search system, or whether you're viewing the event in our PDF or printed program book.

  • WHEN VIEWING EVENTS IN THE PDF OR PRINTED PROGRAM BOOK

  • All events have an 'Event ID' - number that is unique to that event.
    If the event ID has an Asterisk (*) at the front of the number, then you MUST sign up for that event through the Game Shuffler.

  • WHEN VIEWING EVENTS ONLINE
    The event description of the individual game indicates whether it is a shuffled event.
    Near the bottom of the event description, near "More Info", are words that say "Signup through the Shuffler" if the event is shuffled.


Create an online account to use the Shuffler


If you don't plan to play in any Shuffled RPG events, you don't need to create an online account
However, if you do, we encourage you to log into your current account, or make an account online before the show.
You may still want to make an account even if you don't plan to use the Shuffler, because it's also a tool for helping you find - and keep track of - events/games that you might want to join.

It also gives you the opportunity a few weeks before the show to pre-submit your Shuffler choices for games that are run through the Shuffler.

You are permitted to have ONE account only for submitting Shuffler Choices. Any violation of this one account rule is grounds for expulsion from the convention with no recourse or refund.

Your online account is NOT associated in any way with your paid convention registration. You can create a NEW ACCOUNT HERE.


Submit Shuffler requests online


BEFORE you submit Shuffler Requests, log into your account, and search for events that you want to play in, and note the EVENT ID of those events.

Remember that NOT ALL EVENTS ARE SHUFFLED! Only the ones as noted above.

Once you have a list of shuffled events that you'd like to try to get into, visit the Shuffler Requests page.

Use the pull down menus to select your 1st/2nd/3rd choice for each period. Be patient, as it takes a few moments to load!

It does NOT HELP YOUR CHANCES to select the same event as all 3 choices!

Once you've selected the events you want, hit the "Submit Choices" button, and you'll be shown the events you're currently requesting in the Shuffler.

Shuffler Menus

You can submit requests onlne until ONE WEEK BEFORE the start of KublaCon.

We will be running PERIOD ONE PRIOR TO THE START OF KUBLACON on Monday before KublaCon at 5pm!

If can't submit request online because the Shuffler is closed, or for other reasons, you can submit them at the show at our Shuffler Kiosks

You will use the SAME ACCOUNT as your online account, so please be prepared with your login name and password.

Also come prepared with your list of games and visit one of the Kiosks in the Grand Foyer. Please do NOT place yourself at one of the Kiosks and begin browsing through the program book to find your events! Be courteous to others, and prepare your event choices before approaching the Shuffler.

The hours of the Onsite Shuffler Kiosks are:
Friday 1pm-9pm,
Saturday 8:30am - 7pm,
Sunday 8:30am-3pm.


Event Signup Periods


The schedule of events includes the signup times for various blocks of games, or sessions. Please note that you may signup for events in ANY PERIOD that hasn't reached its cutoff time. Prior to a period's cutoff time, you will create/log in to your account and indicate your top 3 choices in order of preference for events that fall into the signup period.

What this means... is that you can choose to submit requests on Friday afternoon for events that happen ALL WEEKEND. Submitting your request early DOES NOT HELP you get into an event. Our Game Shuffler doesn't factor in the time of your request.

You CAN MAKE CHANGES to a previously made request by logging into your account before the deadline, or you can make changes at one of our Kiosks on-site.

Posting of Events


Approximately 1/2 hour after the close of a registration period, we will post the game assignments outside of Area 2, in the lobby. We will post each event and the individuals assigned to the event, and we will also post a list of the individuals with their corresponding game assignment.

If you don't get one of your 3 choices, you can attempt to enter on a "stand by" basis, taking the place of "no Shows", by checking into the event in the room where it is taking place. If you get into an event, be sure to arrive on time, as all events will be run on a very tight schedule.

Results can also be viewed online, or by logging into your account.

Shuffler Weighting

  • At the beginning of KublaCon, every Shuffler account starts with a base weight of 1000. Qualifying GM's and Volunteers start with a lighter (less) base weight of 800 as a perk for helping us create a great event. Your weight is adjusted to be heavier when you actually get into events that you've chosen. Getting into a 1st choice event adds more weight than getting your 3rd choice. Conversely, if you get none of your 3 choices, your weight will get an automatic deduction, making it lighter.
  • The lower your weight, the more likely you'll get into one of your three choices. The heavier your weight, the less likely you'll get into your first or second event choice, or into any of your choices at all. In the case of ties based on weight, then the program will randomly place people into an event.
  • Over the course of the weekend, your weight and everybody elses will be changing dynamically. If you find that, at first, you're not getting into events, then as other people do get into events, their weight will get heavier relative to yours. The weighting system helps create a fair system to help everyone have fun.

Secrets of Event IDs!

  • The different digits of the ID code give you a clue as to the event itself. While the first TWO digits are almost always represented as noted in the chart, the last THREE digits are used for different things such as flights, table numbers, etc.
  • For roleplaying games, the Game Type code - the fourth digit from the right - will always be a "2". For LARP's the Game Type code is a "9."

  • Event Reg Codes

The Future of the Shuffler

We're always trying to improve our attendee's experience. And to that end, we know that we can improve elements of the Shuffler. Some of those things include:

  • Always 'ON' internet signups -
    the ability to submit shuffler requests online right up until the cutoff time for event periods. Using your smartphone or tablet device, sign up from wherever you are at the convention, at home, or traveling.
  • Internet Postings of Shuffler results -
    From your mobile device, visit the website and see either a web page or a PDF of the results of a Shuffle.
  • A KublaCon App -
    which would include the ability to sign up for Shuffled events, and to view the results of each period's shuffle.

We would LOVE to include all of these functionalities! As resources become available, we'll do what we can to implement improvements. Keep an eye on our News Ticker for upgrades and changes.
